I was watching on the internet a 10-minute talk by a popular Catholic nun, a Mother Angelica, on the subject of staying and living in the present moment, a subject on which I am totally fascinated and in agreement.  However, there was something she said that was a little disturbing, well at least for me from my perspective and with my knowledge and lifestyle of continued ongoing improvement of personal health.  She said something to the effect, “Well, at one time you could easily walk up the stairs – now you can’t.  So what.  You’re old now.  Get over it.”  The audience laughs.

It Is Not Normal To Get Old – We Just Accept It As Normal

It is not normal to grow old.  Most people let it happen.  It is only “statistically normal” in the sense that it is a commonplace acceptance – that we are destined to one day be old and decrypted if we live beyond a certain age such as 80 or so.

What Is “Old”?

Have you ever asked yourself what is “old”?  Or at what age do you become “old”?  I have had people tell me, 70, 60 – even 50!!  Unbelievable.  If you really think and understand the underlying meaning of “old”, it is a synonym for “unable”.  “Old” is the age at which you decide to let yourself deteriorate and thus allow yourself to become “older” and “older”.
