Before 30, youth is God’s gift to you. And after 30, youth is your gift to yourself. This thought came to me one day, and I understood, truly understood the why of exercise. Then, a little beyond this thought, came to me the idea that, metaphorically speaking, our bodies, as far as aging is concerned, are either a swamp or flowing waters. In this article, you will hopefully see that it is no longer a question of how old you are…but how old you want to be. A new future for you, if you wish, is only an article’s reading away. Read on.

Your Body As A Swamp

I want you to think about something for a moment. I want you to think of a swamp. Okay. Got that image in your mind? Now, I want you to think of flowing mountain spring waters. Got that image in mind? Could you describe the differences in the two? Let us first take the swamp. A swamp is characterized by stagnation, filth and putrefaction. Not all organisms are turned off by the idea of living in the habitat of a swamp. Fungi and moss love it there – so do frogs, snakes and lizards – and flies. It smells bad, and it is slimy to walk through.

Your Body As Flowing Spring Waters

Now, what are the characteristics of flowing mountain spring waters? For one, it’s clean enough to drink, but the essence and the secret of its purity lies in the fact that it flows. It moves and circulates, and in a way, keeps itself clean from the accumulation of filth and sediment.

As You Age, Inactivity Turns Your Body Into The Swamp

Using this as a metaphor of the difference of one who exercises and one who doesn’t, we can see the parallel and what essentially happens to us as we age and become sedentary, stagnate and deteriorating through inactivity. Just like the sedentary swamp, we begin to accumulate all of the filth, sediment and putrefaction of not using our bodies.

Exercise, With Progressive Weight Resistance, Turns Back The Clock and Returns Your Youth Back To You

Now, what would happen to the swamp that begins to flow? What would happen to the waters that would begin to move and circulate through the rocks and down the mountain edges? Yes, all of the sediment and filth would begin to purify itself from the waters. Beginning and continuing with regular physical exercise, no matter at what stage of your life, will in turn, reverse the physiological deterioration of the aging process. No I must emphasize right here, that when I speak of proper youth-rejuvenating exercise, I am unequivocally speaking of progressive weight resistance using barbells and dumbbells on a regular basis. Just jogging won’t cut it. Calisthenics – still not enough. Pilates? Don’t make me laugh. Your muscles, joints, bones and tendons need what proper weight resistance has to offer to every part of your body. With this type of exercise and proper eating – the living waters of your blood, heart and circulatory system, begin to rejuvenate your body, giving it new life and new energy.

Exercise, With Progressive Weight Resistance, Must Become Your New Youth Lifestyle

Beginning to exercise must be taken and understood to be the beginning of a new lifestyle. You are not doing this to get somewhere – then stop. No more do you bathe today – to become clean enough to stop bathing for the rest of your life. There are undeniable daily activities that must be done for the rest of our lives. Some of them are more obvious like eating, sleeping, bathing. I say that exercising also belongs on this list, that is, if you want to live longer, feel stronger and enjoy more of your life. Why not give yourself a chance to experience more of life? I encourage you to begin and take that first step, and I stand up and applaud you for honoring your body, for to do this is to honor the temple of your spirit.

Yours in health,

Charles Prosper
