What are proteins? Protein is the main component of your muscle tissue. This is why it is first and foremost important to promote your muscular development, increase your strength and improve your ability to handle heavier and heavier weights. You need to supply your body with ample quality protein or no growth will occur in the muscles. Proteins are your building blocks of muscular growth. In this article, you will discover exactly what you need to do to fortify your system with protein to trigger explosive muscular growth. There should always be plenty of protein on your plate. Now, I admit, telling you that there should be “plenty” does really help you to understand what plenty means. Here is an easy formula.

The Palm Formula

Open up the palm of your hand, fingers extended outward. Good. Now imagine that you have cut off all of your fingers and thumb, and are left with just the fleshy part of your palm. This is approximately the portion size of protein that should be on your plate – the size of your hand, your palm, without the fingers. All said, for rapid muscular growth, you should eat at least 1.5 grams of protein per pound of your body weight.

Protein With Every Meal

Another thing about eating protein is that you should have some protein as a part of each of your 5 small daily meals, and you should always eat your protein first. Eating protein first slows down the absorption of the complex and or simple sugars that you might have on your plate in the form of, say, yams or dates. The problem with sugars when it hits an empty stomach is that it breaks down too fast and it is then easily converted to fat cells if you are not careful. Eating your protein first helps you to circumvent this problem. So, even if it is a “cheat meal” day, and you have decided to devour that apple pie, be sure to eat the protein portion of your plate first. This will minimize the damage of the high fat and sugar-laden dessert. Protein rocks! Eat more, and you will feel hard as a rock.
